Kaja Kraner

Kaja Kraner (b. 1986, Yugoslavia/Slovenia) an independent researcher, lecturer, and curator based in Ljubljana, and holds a Ph.D. in Humanities from AMEU-ISH, Ljubljana (2020). Her Ph.D. thesis Geopolitics of Art: The Parallel Narrative Example, was based on the analysis of the process and context of building the narrative of contemporary art in Slovenia. It focused on the connection between the production of knowledge, value, and power in the art sphere; as well as models of aesthetic education through art from modernity onwards. She was the editor of the art-theory oriented radio program Art-area on Radio Študent, Ljubljana (2015-2019), and has been a member of the editorial board of ŠUM, as well as a member of its research team since 2015. She is currently active also as an art critic and book reviewer for various Slovenian journals and magazines (Dialogi, Amfiteater, Neodvisni, Kriterij, Radio Študent, Likovne besede, Razpotja, etc.).

As an independent researcher, she holds lectures, attends conferences and writes articles in the fields of contemporary art, aesthetics, [art] theory, philosophy, and the sociology of art for various para-/academic journals and publications (ČKZ – Journal for Criticism of Science, ISH Monitor, AM Journal for Art and Media Studies, ŠUM, Maska, etc.). Her current research interests include the aesthetics of visual art, models of temporality in art, art historiography, the epistemology of art, and history of ideas in relation to art.
