Solveig Suess

Solveig Suess (CN/CH) is an independent filmmaker and designer who works between Berlin and Beijing. Her work focuses on embodied and ecological politics across infrastructural environments, through documentary-making, research and writing. She studied Visual Communication in Glasgow School of Art (2012), followed by a postgraduate degree at the Centre for Research Architecture, Goldsmiths University, London (2017) and Strelka Institute of Media, Architecture and Design, Moscow (2018). She has shown her films internationally including at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, Images Festival Toronto, Tabakalera Centre for Contemporary Culture, ArtScience Museum Singapore, Transmediale Berlin amongst others.

Together, Bazdyrieva and Suess co-author ‘Geocinema’— a series of documentary-led investigations that examine infrastructures of earth-sensing data as forms of cinema. In 2018-2019 they were Digital Earths fellows.

Geocinema consists of art historian Asia Bazdyrieva and filmmaker Solveig Suess. Bazdyrieva studied analytical chemistry at the Kyiv National University (2009) and art history at The City University of New York as a Fulbright grantee (2017). Suess completed her undergraduate in Visual Communication at the Glasgow School of Art, with her postgraduate at the Centre for Research Architecture, Goldsmiths University, London (2017). Bazdyrieva and Suess started their collaboration at the New Normal think-tank, Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design, Moscow (2018). In 2018-19 they were Digital Earth fellows. Together, Bazdyrieva and Suess co-author ‘Geocinema’— a series of documentary-led investigations that examine infrastructures of earth-sensing data as forms of cinema. Their first solo exhibition is currently open in Kunsthall Trondheim.
