Beatrice Rubio-Gabriel
Beatrice Rubio-Gabriel is an artist, curator, and writer living and working in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia. Born in the Philippines, their practice centres around Indigenous knowledge systems of community and healing, and cultural revival. Previously the artistic director for Intermission Gallery, they are now researching Baybayin (the almost-lost precolonial script of the Philippines), and how this may be engaged through performance as a cultural gateway for imagining new futures through the past. Centering around experimental writing and curatorial practices, they challenge conventional (and often eurocentric) curatorial exhibition modes, where writing also becomes mark-making, and the chance to go home (wherever home is). To embody the political act to simply ‘be’.
